Specialist loft conversion company in South London, Touchstone Lofts
Over 1,000 lofts converted since 1989
South London has so much to offer, but do you ever feel like you just don’t have enough space? We meet many people in this position, and while they need some more space, they also love their homes and don’t want to move out of the South London area. This is a common occurrence along roads such as Silvester Road – East Dulwich is a sought-after area and people enjoy living there, but they have growing families and their needs are changing. We recently met a couple who turned their loft into a bigger bedroom for themselves, which they said was a real luxury since having their three children, who have taken over most of the house! We know that their loft conversion changed their life, and yours could too. From Cowick Road, to Mallinson Road, to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, to Battersea Power Station, and everywhere in between, we continually meet families who are converting their lofts, and they all say the same thing – “why didn’t I do this sooner?”
Award-winning loft conversions
We have been recognised for outstanding quality craftsmanship and excellent customer service by the Federation of Master Builders in their Master Builder of the Year Awards, Southern Region.
We are also finalists in the ‘Best Loft Conversion’ category in the 2020 Homebuilding & Renovating Awards.
How could a loft conversion help you?
These are the main reasons why people in South London are choosing to convert their lofts into usable space:
More room to use as they choose.
The loft space has potential to be anything you like. Make use of that potential and get a loft conversion, improving your way of life without the work involved in an extension.
No need to move house.
Moving house might be an option further down the line, but for now, you can get additional space out of a loft conversion. And if you do decide to sell up later, you can generally add 20% to the price tag when you have a loft conversion.
Any type of room you like.
The space you create is your own and you can do anything you like with it. It could be a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, a nursery, a bathroom, a cinema room… the choice is yours.
Different types of loft conversion
One of the key reasons behind our success is our commitment to making every single loft conversion bespoke. We really listen, taking into account your needs, how you will use your loft conversion, and what you need to get out of it. We work to consistently high standards – we manage the project as well as completing all the work, taking care of electrics, plumbing and heating. We’re your one-stop-shop for loft conversions.
We can create a loft space that is truly yours, with the support of our experienced surveyors. We can even create loft conversions in the tightest of spaces – one of our success stories saw us converting a loft with just 2m ridge height. The solutions we put together are simple and don’t involve time-consuming, costly major structural alterations.

Your loft conversion questions answered
Have a question about loft conversions? We’re happy to help. Read our answers to the questions that our customers frequently ask us.
How long does a loft conversion take?
Depending on the size and type, most loft conversions take around 12 weeks.
Will I need to move out during the project?
No – it’s safe to carry on living inside the property. We work from the scaffolding before the stairs go in. Any disruption you experience will mainly come from noise.
Where will you place our new staircase?
We will be able to fit your staircase around your existing layout and will find an option to suit you. If possible, we will try to fit your new staircase over the existing staircase so that it fits seamlessly within your property.
Do I need planning permission for a loft conversion?
This depends on your location and type of property – all flats require planning, but if you live in a house that isn’t in a designated area, then permitted development is usually used and no planning is required. There are many other factors to take into account and one of our surveyors can advise further.
How much does a loft conversion cost?
Most cost between £30,000 and £50,000. This depends on the size and type – bigger and more complicated jobs take longer and therefore will cost more. See pricing information for further details.
What is a party wall agreement and do I need one for a loft conversion?
A party wall agreement (PWA) is required if you have a semi-detached or a terraced property and you are working within or near your neighbour’s boundary. We can advise when the surveyor visits.
Does a loft conversion add value to a home?
Yes – it will add from 20% to 30% upwards depending on the size, design and type.
How much head height do you need for a loft conversion?
If you have a clear head height of 2m then a loft conversion may be possible. Our surveyor will need to assess this to confirm.
What’s possible with your loft conversion?
These are some of the build possibilities you might want to consider for your loft conversion:
